Weekly Learning Review - Week Ending: 07.06.2018

Weekly Learning Review
Class:      Year 3                      Week Ending: 7/6/2018
Literacy
Spelling words this week are VCCV words e.g. dentist the -enti part of the word follows the vowel, consonant, consonant, vowel pattern.  In all the words we identified the pattern and again completed lots of activities to help understand the meaning of the words. Last weeks sentences in the assessment are showing improvement. Please continue to help children with the weekly spellings especially writing twenty sentences using the words correctly. This week we have started our research in the ICT room. I have shown children how to search for information and record notes for their proper piece of writing next week. We are researching a country of choice to write a non-fiction, non-chronological report, such as the one about Meerkats we studied last week. The children have collected information about the location of their country, population, climate culture etc. I am looking forward to reading lots of informative reports next week. I have sent children home with their student homework book from the Collins Literacy series. They can use this at home to revise for their literacy assessment at the end of term.
Mathematics
We started the week by completing some more complicated Venn diagrams. The children enjoyed this and some were able to create their own Venn diagrams. We then spent time looking at division with remainders e.g.  32/3 is 10r2. The week finished by calculating money problems. Children now understand the pound and pence notation. They can convert pounds into pence and pence into pounds e.g. 465p is four pounds and sixty five pence. We also studied some word problems based on money calculations. Please remember children should be working through both revision packs at home. Dont forget the bite size revision website http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/.   Please remind children they can come to me at any time, if they need any extra help with anything that we have studied this year.
Science
This week, I have helped children with their revision of forces and motion. We completed written questions and watched a video, to help reinforce the concepts we have learnt both in the classroom and the laboratory. http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/. Please encourage children to look at the science section about forces and motion.
Humanities
This week, humanities has been studied through our literacy unit. Children have been researching a country of their choice.
Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education
