Weekly Learning Review- Week Ending: 3 May 2018

Weekly Learning Review
Class:      Year 3                      Week Ending: 3/5/2018
Literacy
Spelling words this week are long e sounding words e.g. ea- ear, each -ie brief, ee- meet and ey/y- like turkey and baby. Please practise with children at home and ensure children can write the words correctly in sentences. We spent a lot of time doing this during class. In literacy, we studied two poems about senses. We looked at how the poems are constructed and what makes the poems interesting and easy to read. Children then wrote their own poems making sure they used four verses and had some rhyming words. There were some very creative pieces of work with lovely illustrations. Finally, we changed a story about lost shoes into a play script. Children had to write the speech part for each character. We then acted out our finished play.
Mathematics
Another great week in maths. We have been focusing on geometry this week. We started by identifying angles- obtuse, right and acute angles. Most children are now experts at finding these angles within different shapes and structures. We also spent time looking at how to find the areas of triangles. Again, most children are now confident with the formula- area equals half base times height. We finished the week by looking at coordinate pairs e.g. (3, 5) (4, 7) We used them to plot a fun picture.
Science
We only had a short time for science this week. We continued our work on forces. We looked at forces in nature and talked about the power of wind and water.
Humanities
This lesson is on a Tuesday when we were absent from school.
Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education
