Weekly Learning Review 9.11.17

Weekly Learning Review

Class: Year 3 – Gentle Giraffes       Week Ending: 9.11.17
In Literacy, we have read the beginning of ‘The Giraffe and The Pelly and Me’. We explored the main character’s feelings and thoughts via role playing; expanding our vocabulary and practising writing in the first person. In addition to that, we described one of the book’s scenes by drawing it and, afterwards, labelling it using expanded noun phrases.
In Reading, the children have predicted what might happen next. We held interesting discussions about the characters’ behaviours and their motives.

This week in Maths, the children’s learning has been focused on fractions. Children are now able to recognise fractions as numbers; to compare and order unit fractions such as 1/3, 1/4, 1/2. During the lessons, the children have also represented fractions in different ways.
The topic for the second half term is ‘Light’. We have learned that we need light in order to see. The children have drawn a picture labelling the differences between day and night.
Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education
Personal Learning Goal: ‘Open-mindedness’ - The children, alongside the teacher, have discussed different problems and alternative solutions.
They role played different scenarios and are learning to empathise with others.
