Weekly Learning Review - Week Ending:4.10.17

Weekly Learning Review
Class: Year 3 – Gentle Giraffes                Week Ending:4.10.17
During this short but exciting week, we have continued reading Flat Stanley. The children have learned what verbs are and are able to identify them within a sentence. In addition to this, they have compared Arthur’s and Stanley’s feelings by writing sentences using contrasting connectives (conjunctions) and including a range of synonyms.
We have also begun reading ‘Esio Trot’ by Roald Dahl. The children have predicted what will happen with Alfie, the tortoise, in the following chapters by drawing and labelling their predictions.

This has been a very successful week in Maths. We have learned different strategies for mental addition and subtraction such as counting on, counting backwards, partitioning or approximating to the nearest ten or hundred.
The children have also faced challenging extensions at the end of every single lesson.
Everyone has been amazing during these lessons and I can do nothing but congratulate the children. Well done Year 3!
We have created a daily menu by designing three different healthy and balanced meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. The children have drawn their own foods and have classified them into different nutritional categories.
Everyone has now been challenged to eat as healthy as they can. Good luck!
This week, we have learned that Egypt is split up into twenty seven governorates. We have described the governorates in relation with each other, using compass points to describe locations.

Resilience. This week we discussed ‘Resilience’ as a principle to success. The children held a conversation about resilience and, after that, they gave examples of situations where resilience was a necessity to achieve a satisfactory outcome.
