Weekly Learning Review - Week Ending:12.10.17

Weekly Learning Review
Class: Year 3 – Gentle Giraffes Week Ending:12.10.17
Poetry has been the main focus of the week in Literacy. We have read two more chapters of Flat Stanley and we looked at several poems. The children have learned and discussed figurative language: rhyming words, similes, metaphors, alliteration, repetition and personification.
In Guided Reading, we have started reading the script for our class assembly which will be in a couple of weeks. This assembly will be about Flat Stanley and the children voted to decide who will be each character.

In Maths, we have learned about multiplication for the first time. We have focused on concrete and pictorial multiplication to allow the children to understand the process of this operation; going beyond their previous understanding. We have used equal groups, repeated addition, arrays and the number line to explore the way multiplication really happens.

Moving on in our topic ‘Animals including Humans’, we have identified that humans and some other animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement.
We have continued using maps and atlases to locate places and to describe features previously studied. The children have also used the eight points of a compass to describe some places in relation to others.

Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education
We have discussed and learned about cooperation and working cooperatively. We talked about the importance of taking turns; offering suggestions instead of commands; and the benefits of working in groups.
